Minister's Musings

Christmas Eve

by Don Macaulay December 20, 2021
written by Don Macaulay

Dear SSOTH family and friends-like-family:  With prayer and lots of e-mail conversations with council, the worship committee, the choir and the A/V team, it was decided that, given the rise in the Omicron variant, the 7:00 p.m. Christmas Eve service will be held by zoom only.  Sunju and I will be in the sanctuary, the choir will record their anthem and  the hymns, but the rest of the service will be live on zoom.

We would still like to offer the Quiet Service at 6:00 p.m. for those who would like a quiet time of reflection for about 20 – 25 minutes, with piano accompaniment, no congregational participation, candle light and Christmas lights.  Enter the sanctuary in silence and simply sit in silence.

From the beginning of October until last week, the little taste of new found freedom felt good and we thought we were out of the woods so to speak, but I am grateful that we have the technology and skilled audio visual team that enables us to offer the Christmas Eve service safely.

We are still meeting in the sanctuary tomorrow but as always by zoom as well.  Please stay safe and healthy in body, mind and spirit.  Blessings. Rev. Debra
We do not levitate, everything we do is on this ground, this earth, this place. Surely God is in this place. Get to know “this” place and discover holy ground.

Covid-19 Info

by St. Stephens September 12, 2019
written by St. Stephens

Due to the restrictions in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, all St. Stephen’s on-the-Hill physical facilities have been closed.  However, the church is very much alive through a wide variety of virtual activities and services being delivered.  Zoom enabled Memorial Services have also been held and can be arranged.

We have resumed our regular Sunday Morning Zoom services at 10:30 AM and are planning the return to in church attendance soon.

To participate in our Zoom services please email Rev. Debra McGill (revdpmcgill@gmail.com ) or contact the church office.

If you have any pastoral care needs or wish to be included in our virtual outreach please call us at 905-278-9245 or send an email to stephensuc@on.aibn.com.  There is also a mailbox beside the main door of the church (which is checked regularly).

Our church is a small organization with ongoing financial obligations.  Our main sources of income have been impacted by Covid-19.  We no longer receive in person donations at our Sunday services.  Our May garage sale is postponed and our rental income is nonexistent due to cancellations.  Please consider making an online donation here by using the “Donate Now” button below to help us through this difficult period.  Thank you very much.

Meet the Minister

Meet the Minister

Rev. Debra McGill

I was warmly welcomed to SSOTH January of 2019 having served in rural ministry for 14 years and in urban ministry for 7 years.
I believe we are in the “Age of the Spirit” and I look forward to accompanying others of all ages and stages in life on a spiritual journey of discovery: “who we are called to be” in this world where we are deeply concerned about environmental and social justice issues both locally and globally. I’m passionate about many things, creative worship, bible study, taizé and engaging with people as they share their stories.
I continue to look forward to meeting the folk of this community.
