We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations. We give thanks for the care, the wisdom, and the stewardship Indigenous peoples have offered this land for countless generations. We also acknowledge that the church has too often been complicit in systems of colonization and exclusion, using theology to justify the oppression of Indigenous peoples and the marginalization of 2SLGBTQIA+ people. In the name of certainty, power, and supremacy, Sacred stories have too often been weaponized to wound rather than to heal. So today we commit ourselves to a different path, the path embodied in Jesus, one of truth, reconciliation, affirmation, and belonging. We pray for the courage to walk, walk gently on this land, to honor the dignity of every person, and to embody the expansive love of Christ for all.
